Black African Dolls

Do you remember the blue , red and green plastic dolls that we used as kids especially for those of us that were born in the 80's? I got amused about it when I grew older, wondered what on earth inspired those coloured dolls, they would have been better if they were made in black plastic.

Well, after a while, the Western inspired ones flooded the market, we saw the yellow sisi dolls, with blond and red hair, and blue and green eyes.

Okay, our own Nigerian entrepreneur, Taofick Okoya, decided to create African inspired dolls, and I give him kudos for that, at least our kids will play with black dolls. These dolls are African themed, with African names, African attires, and some of them also have their hair made in threads or braids.
Its a good start, although I still hope to see him make ones that look like the true African "thick madam".

Find a link below to the story we did on this great entrepreneur. I got one of the barbies for my daughter and since then, she wants to be called "Nneka," after the doll! Kids!!
